Meetings and workshops at the Fondazione Lac o Le Mon, summer 2018

Conditions of Participation

1 – The Fondazione is able to offer to all the guests a basic form of hospitality and the use of fundamental facilities (shared kitchen, common bathrooms, electricity, water etc.). No travel grants provided. We will provide a certain number of mats and beds, but the house is not fully furnished, and there is no “single room with bathroom” available.  For those who have a tent, it is possible to camp in the park around the house. Better to bring one’s own towels, sheets and sleeping bag.

One of the most important aim of the Fondazione is the complete self-sustainability and the “zero waste” option. Therefore the use of water and electricity will be necessarily limited. To give an example, there will be no washing-machine nor dish-washer.

All the meals will be commonly prepared in the house. Each participant, aside from collaborating in preparing the meals and putting in order the common spaces, is requested to give upon arrival a small sum of money (15 euros per day) for purchasing food and for basic costs of the Fondazione.

All the info on how to get there, on addresses and useful contacts in the area (cleaners, transports, hardware etc.) is available here and on this website.

2 – During the months of May through September 2018 there will be a program of seminars, workshops, investigation communities, and “Cafausic” courses. A calendar follows (some dates might change). Unless otherwise specified, the participation to seminars and workshops is free.

3 – For general info please write to lacolemon (at) gmail (dot) com. For info on each workshop please write to the specific email written below.

Making the immaterial
Curated by Juan Esteban Sandoval in collaboration with Nico Angiuli.
Making the Immaterial explores the different kinds of relationship between matter, process and form in the realization of the sculptural object. Sculpture as a “medium” through which to catalyze ideas, concepts, processes and relationships with a given context. Making the Immaterial concerns the soil as a material that can be transformed and modeled, and as a bearer of stories of a place. The workshop consists in the collection and cataloguing of soil, sands and clays from different places in Puglia (fields, quarries, yards, gardens, etc.), the realization of clay objects made by mixing the harvested matters and the subsequent firing in an artisanal oven made on site by the participants.

July 24–30
The aesthetics of the not perceivable, 2018. The immaterial quality of third millennium aesthetic forms
Curated by Emilio Fantin.
Aesthetics of the not perceivable unfolds in two independent moments: an imaginative attitude which opens up spaces of vision, and a logic and rational approach totally adherent to reality. The end of the dialectics psyche-reason and matter-spirit is the object of an aesthetic research which redefines art and that can constitute the cultural horizon of the years to come. Sharing theoretical reflection and practices will give us the opportunity to refine a sensitivity through which to elaborate our most refined primary material.
Two separate meetings, which can be attended individually or together

August 3–10
A tree is a tree is a tree is a tree
Curated by Giulia Gabrielli and Shervin Kianersi Haghighi.
To climb a tree. To sleep under a tree. To observe a tree. To listen to a tree. To follow the rhythm of a tree. To think as a tree. A tree as a tree as a tree. To collect the fruits and take roots. But also, a tree with roots in the air. Let’s choose two. A lemon tree. An olive tree. Which kind of stories they can tell? Which kind of history do they embody? Through actions, reenactment and appropriation of texts, tales, proverbs, myths, recipes, aesthetic and medical properties, artistic uses, timing of blossoming, roles in history, symbologies and personal stories, the idea is to weave a narration/script/performance that will put as in relation with those two trees in the Cafausica’s garden.
The beginning of a research, of an audio archive, or better, of an audioguide (potentially endless) that maps the garden, a knowledge built in time.

August 15–22
Inner Landscapes. A subjective mapping of the surroundings
Curated by Sara Alberani and Larisa Oancea.
How is it that, at times, a provisional refuge or an occasional shelter is endowed in our intimate day-dreaming? On whatever theoretical horizon we examine it, the house image would appear to have become the topography of our intimate being. (Gaston Bachelard)
Taking its cue from Bachelard’s essay ‘The poetics of space’, this workshop uses the photographic medium to create a narrative flow between the geographical space and the introspective reflection of the landscape. Within this theoretical and practical exercise of rêverie, the Casa Cafausica becomes The Center, a sort of Borromean ring linking the Real, the Symbolic and the Imaginary.
It is a visual practice that the Casa naturally produces, of an intensity linked to the memory of the place, to nature, to architecture, and in which the subject and the object find themselves on the same ground, exalted by a beauty never comprehensible, yet always present.
The activities are organized on the lab model and enriched by specific interventions: readings, cinema projections, walkscapes, digital editing or darkroom, a small workshop of handmade books and fanzines, full sharing.
The workshop participants will be selected by the curatorial team on the basis of their photographic portfolio and a brief reflection/statement on the topic of the workshop.

August 24–September 2
Passaggi
Curated by Ilaria Mancia and Cesare Pietroiusti.
It is about trying to promote passages between different disciplines such as visual art, theatre, dance, poetry, aesthetic theory etc. parallel to the physical passages that characterize one’s experience of the inside and the outside spaces of the Casa Cafausica.

September 5–9
Network and community. Life, death and post- mortem of Oreste
Curated by Giuliana Benassi, Serena Carbone and Luca Cinquemani.
Oreste was not an organization nor a union but, as its creators have stated, it was «a variable combination of people», of artists who had chosen each other for a specific time, in order to share a determined way of looking and working.
Oreste was born in 1997. It didn’t produce defined artworks but it created spaces of freedom and work that could be experienced by artists and by anybody interested in receiving and giving information. A courageous multiple exchange was activated towards the research of a new way of communication in a certain historic moment when internet and web potentials were starting to be explored.
After two collective experiences in Paliano (FR) in 1997 and 1998, the convention ‘How to explain to my mother that what I do is useful’ at Link in Bologna in 1997, its presence at the 48th Venice Biennial curated by Harald Szeemann in 1999, the residence in Montescaglioso in 2000 and the participation at the exhibition “Le tribù dell’arte” in Rome in 2001, Oreste was declared dead.
Oreste slips away from definitions because its nature is elusive and contingent: who is Oreste? What has Oreste produced?

Dyonisus: a liquid and multiple god.
Tongue and performance: ritual shouting, glossolalias, unknown languages
Curated by Cesare Pietroiusti, Andrea Lanini and Iacopo Seri.
It is about exploring, through readings and altered states of mind, the possibility of giving origin to a creative thiasus. In particular, the group will explore the phonetic components of expression in performance as well as in ordinary talks.
